Together in Ministry

Welcome to SLC Ministry web directory. We would like to tell you a little about our ministries. All the ministries that we do as a congregation are ways that we live the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our homes, community, and church. They are important ministries for you and the ministries are accomplished through you. We are called by God to be both receivers and givers ministry.

Sharing in Ministry

The Church and our congregation are most effective when each of us works together, sharing our uniqueness, caring for one another within the faith community and in our families, workplaces, schools, and community. We are blessed by Christ and by the dedication of our people -- members, pastors and staff -- God’s people responding to God’s call to use their gifts in a variety of ministries.

How to use this online listing

In this listing, we have detailed many opportunities for ministry in our congregation. Please take time to learn about them and participate in them. Discover and reflect on your needs and your God-given gifts and interests. Then find opportunities where you can join in the discovery of the joy, dedication and excitement of a volunteer ministry that "fits" you. You may indicate your willingness to learn about or to serve by calling the persons noted at the end of the brief descriptions, or you may call the church office at 692-9263.

We look forward to knowing you and growing with you in worship, learning, friendship, witnessing, and serving.

Office Staff

Together in ministry ... When we are wondering "what's happening!" the office is filled with cheerful and helpful people to answer our questions. Church office volunteers are an important support both to the paid office staff and to various ministries.

  • Introduce yourselves,
  • Assist them with questions and directions

Bring a Friend. Anytime, to any event, bring a friend to worship, classes, fellowship with the confidence of a warm welcome from the other "ministers in the faith."

Nametag Sundays. On selected Sundays, prepare and wear a nametag visible to others and share your smile, your name, a handshake and greeting of "The Peace of the Lord" with other worshippers. Assistance at the nametag tables is always appreciated.

Greeter. Be a designated greeter of visitors both in the narthex and Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings, inviting them to sign the guest register and to take a "Together in Ministry" booklet and Beacon newsletter home. Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS)

There is an exciting ministry at Silverdale Lutheran Church just for mothers of young children.  If you are expecting a child, or have a child/ren ages 0-5, you are welcome!

MOPS is an outreach program. Caring for young children is demanding.  All mothers need a break and a place to get support from others moms.  Taking time for friendship and support helps each of us be better mothers.

We meet twice monthly on the first and third Fridays (with exceptions based on the CKSD schedule).  We enjoy breakfast, listen to guest speakers pertaining to Christian parenting and general health/wellbeing, and complete crafts. Most importantly, women gather to get a break, share in fellowship, and support each other through the trials and triumphs of parenting.

While moms get their break, the infants and toddlers are lovingly cared for in our church nursery.  Our MOPPETTS (3-5 year olds) gather in same-age groups to participate in Christian learning, make crafts, sing, eat and make new friends.

For general information about MOPS programs, see their Web site at: www.mops.org .  For information about Silverdale Lutheran Church's MOPS, please contact the Church Office @ 692-9263, or via email at slc@silverdalelutheran.org .

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

Prayer shawls, Prayer Squares, and Prayer Bonnets are items lovingly made for anyone in any community. They are made for those who travel the journey of life’s experiences from birth to death: through grief and hurt, through joy and pain, through loss and adjustment, through laughter and tears. Each shawl or square reminds us of the everlasting Presence, for both the knitter and for the person receiving it. It can be worn as a blanket to warm, as a security when seeking the loving arms of God, as a fellow traveler on long trips.

If  you would like to weave prayers into a shawl, we have morning and evening groups meeting in our new Education Building  in the High School Room.  Knitting Ministry Group meets the 2nd Thursday monthly: Thursday, March 10th, 10:30am-12:00pm & 6:30-8:00pm.  We are providing childcare for both mornings and evenings. Can't knit or crochet?  We will have experienced knitters and crocheters to help you get started.  The shawl pattern is very basic and easy to follow.  If you would like to support this ministry in another way, supplies of yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks would be deeply appreciated.

Our new Prayer Shawl Ministry is open to all who would like to experience the power of these shawls and to use this ministry as another opportunity to prayerfully allow our hands to become His hands.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Teresa Price, Terri Randolph, or Laura Brown via the Church Office @ 692-9263.

...you knit me together in my mother's womb.  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works.  Psalm 139: 13b-14a
