In addition to the Confirmation Ministry for 7th-9th graders, we have a growing youth ministry in our congregation that is centered around knowing Christ through meaningful service. We have yearly service trips locally, nationally, and internationally, monthly servant and fellowship events, and a new Youth Team of adults and high schoolers who are expanding the ministry of our 80+ youth in 7th-12th grade.
Confirmation – meet in the Gathering Place. Please also note that we meet from 9:30-10:45am, which is different than the rest of Sunday School.
Youth Nights- February 10th will be a special Friday Youth Night, visiting the synagogue in Tacoma. Youth-please sign up on the Youth Board for the synagogue event so we can plan drivers. DRIVERS-please sign up as well! Plan on dinner for participants and drivers at 5pm, and a return home between 9:30 and 10pm. February 26th will be a required Youth Night for New Orleans participants, with the theme ―Citizens with the Saints.‖ $350 final deposits for New Orleans trip will also be due by this Youth Night.
K.F.C. (Kids For Christ) SLC’s 3rd-6th Grade Youth Group is starting up again! Please join us for Ice Skating at the Bremerton Ice Arena, on Monday, Jan. 16th (MLK DAY), from Noon to 2:30pm. Cost will be $6 to skate, $2.50 to rent skates. We will meet at the ice rink; talk or email Pastor Paula if you have questions at: pastorpaula@silverdalelutheran.org.
Family Dance on Saturday, January 28th at 5:30pm- Great fun for all ages, with dancing, food, door prizes, and more. Teach or learn a new dance and enjoy a professional DJ. This is a required event for New Orleans par-ticipants, and there are all kinds of ways to participate. Sign up on the Youth Board to help set up on Friday, dur-ing the dance on Saturday, or clean up at night.
Youth Ski Trip – President’s Weekend, February 17th-19th in Leavenworth/Steven’s Pass. Sign up on the Youth Board for more details, but this retreat is open to 9-12th graders and friends of all ability. Those who do not have gear or season tickets are encouraged to sign up for the ―Coca Cola‖ package of ticket, rental, and lesson for $89 (www.stevenspass.com).
Youth Retreat at Black Lake – Friday March 9th-Sunday March 11th is this year’s Jr. and Sr. High Youth Event for Lutheran youth from across the Puget Sound. Open to 7-12th graders, the cost is $125 (make checks out to SLC and give to Robin Long). Limited scholarships available. Youth Board sign up and payment due by February 19th. Driver/Chaperones needed.
Holden Youth Weekend – May 18th to May 21st is your opportunity to attend a weekend for high school students in the wonder of Holden Village. Beautiful mountains, great workshops and music, hiking, and so much more. Cost is $165; leave Friday afternoon, return Monday night. Youth Board sign up and payment due by March 11th.
Youth Auction – Are you a young person involved in the youth ministry of SLC? Whether or not you are going to New Orleans this summer, you can donate an item or skill to this year’s Youth Auction, which benefits this and other Summer Servant trips. Donation forms are available at the Youth Board, and are due by March 4th.
