What does it mean to be a member of Silverdale Lutheran Church?
We think of membership here differently than one typical does when it comes to being associated with a club or organization. To be a member of this Congregation is to be a partner in our mission of making Christ known and extending God’s love to all people. Membership means a commitment to follow Jesus Christ with others at SLC. It means worship, study, prayer, service, sharing the Gospel, and striving for justice. It means being part of, and taking part in our Community. Membership goes way beyond an association.
One becomes a member of SLC through Baptism, Affirmation of Baptism, or by transfer from another Lutheran congregation.
Adults preparing for Baptism or to reaffirm one’s Baptism attend an eight week “Basics” class that covers the core beliefs of Christianity from a Lutheran perspective. What does it mean to follow Jesus in this time and place?” is the fundamental question that is explored in these classes. The goal of the classes then is to enrich one’s relationship to Jesus and his Church. The classes use multimedia and are informal with lots of time for discussion and questions. Often current members attend these classes for their faith enrichment as well. There is no obligation to become a member after taking the class. Please contact the church office or Pastor Bill for more information.
Finally, we like to think of all members of SLC as ministers who put their gifts and abilities to work to build up the body of Christ, the Church. Who are the ministers of SLC? Every member! There is a place here for you to join in the adventure of following Jesus and to discover your ministry and abilities.
